Overview: - LANWT is a non-profit public interest law firm that provides high-quality free civil legal services to low-income individuals in North and West Texas. - We are seeking a self-motivated and passionate attorney to join our team in Odessa, Texas. - The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to public interest law and a desire to make a positive impact in the community.
Responsibilities: - Provide daily representation in civil legal matters. - Identify and pursue opportunities for strategic advocacy. - Engage in outreach and collaboration with low-income individuals and community groups. - Gather evidence, advise clients, draft legal documents, and conduct civil lawsuits. - Interview clients and witnesses with cultural competence. - Represent clients in court and before government agencies. - Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for clients and the community. - Provide legal assistance in various areas of civil law. - Design and implement outreach and community legal education programs. - Supervise and coordinate activities of legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers.
Qualifications: - Licensed to practice law in Texas. - Prior experience handling contested family law cases preferred. - Strong understanding of relevant laws and procedures. - Prior experience in legal services, public interest, or volunteer work with low-income individuals preferred. - Excellent communication skills. - Strategic thinking and project management abilities. - Strong work ethic and sense of accountability. - Fluent in Spanish (preferred). - Excellent attendance record. - Ability to travel occasionally for work.
Salary: Starting salary for new attorneys is $66,500 per year. Salary for the successful applicant may be higher based on experience.
