The position of Staff Attorney – Family Law at SMRLS is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and experienced attorney to provide legal assistance to low-income individuals and families in contested family law matters. In this role, the Staff Attorney will be responsible for providing legal services to clients in contested family law matters, including custody, domestic abuse, and other family law issues. The attorney will represent eligible clients in court throughout SMRLS’ Southwest service area, which covers 17 counties in southern Minnesota. The attorney may also be assigned other duties as needed to support the mission of SMRLS.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of 2 years of family law practice, with courtroom experience or related legal training. They must also be licensed to practice law in Minnesota and have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with low-income clients, victims of domestic abuse, and persons of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Strong communication skills, the ability to work well with others in a team setting, and computer competence are also necessary for this role.
This position offers a competitive salary of $74,083 , commensurate with experience, and excellent fringe benefits. Key responsibilities for the Staff Attorney – Family Law position at SMRLS include:

Qualifications for the Staff Attorney – Family Law position at SMRLS include:
