Job Summary:
The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking a Sr. Coverage Counsel to join our National Claims Counsel team. This is a full-time, exempt role that can be remote based or at one of our office locations.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Research and provide legal advice and opinions to claims handlers on coverage issues arising from the company’s insurance contracts. Prepare timely, appropriate and actionable coverage opinions/advice on selected high complexity/exposure claims. Partner with claim handlers to develop strategies that optimally resolve coverage disputes. Manage selective coverage litigation brought by or against the Company. Review and approve proposed coverage actions brought on behalf of the company. Collaborate with underwriting and product areas to improve the Company’s insurance products.
Position Requirements:
Significant experience preparing coverage opinions on property casualty insurance policies. Experience litigating insurance coverage and related bad faith disputes. Ability to work collaboratively within a team framework. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Computer literacy, including proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook. Familiarity with legal principles and issues concerning E-Discovery. JD degree or equivalent. Admitted to practice in at least one US jurisdiction. Preferably 6 or more years of experience in practicing law in a law firm or in-house. Skilled at time management and organizing work.
