Job Description:
As a Senior Assistant District Attorney for the Macon Judicial Circuit, you will be responsible for managing complex criminal cases, with a focus on homicide unit assignments. Your role will involve strategic decision-making, case management, mentoring junior attorneys, legal research, drafting documents, and representing the state in court. This is a full-time position and the salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities:
- Independently manage and oversee a complex caseload of serious felonies - Analyze complex legal issues and develop effective prosecution strategies - Review cases to determine if the investigation is complete prior to making a charging decision - Collaborate with law enforcement to coordinate investigations and ensure successful prosecutions - Make charging decisions and draft legal pleadings and motions for criminal cases - Present cases to the Grand Jury for indictment - Stay updated on case law and legal matters pertaining to the case - Prepare cases for trial by conducting witness interviews, responding to legal arguments, and extending plea recommendations - Work with victims and victim advocates throughout the criminal justice process - Prepare legal documents and represent the state in various court appearances - Mentor junior prosecutors and provide feedback and guidance on trial strategies - Attend meetings, community events, and serve on committees - Maintain Bar status and CLE hours
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor degree - Member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or eligible for reciprocity admittance - Admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals - Minimum of 5 years of experience in trial advocacy, preferably with experience in major felonies - Supervisory experience is preferred - Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, judicial procedures, and rules of evidence - Proficient in using personal computers and relevant office software - Excellent communication skills, both oral and written - Ability to analyze and organize complex legal information and present it effectively
