Job Description
Boston Scientific is currently seeking a Senior IP Counsel for their Peripheral Interventions department located in Maple Grove, Minnesota. This role will provide legal advice and service on patents, copyrights, trademarks, licensing, and related agreements for the company's Peripheral Interventional business segment. The ideal candidate will have a JD degree, be admitted to a state bar in good standing, and be a registered US Patent Attorney. They should also have a strong academic background and a minimum of 7 years of legal experience with a reputable law firm or corporate legal department, with at least 2 years of patent prosecution experience. Experience in IP litigation or M&A is also preferred.
The Senior IP Counsel will be responsible for directing the company's patent, copyright, trademark, and intellectual property protection. This includes overseeing outside counsel's preparation of patent applications and office action responses, participating in intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions, and providing other general legal advice as needed. They will also be responsible for reviewing third party patent portfolios and patents for product freedom-to-practice issues, as well as preparing or obtaining appropriate opinions from outside counsel. This role will also involve reviewing and managing the work of outside counsel, as well as providing IP training to Boston Scientific employees.
The anticipated compensation for this role ranges from $133,700 to $254,000 per year, depending on location and other factors. This includes core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific, which may vary based on the location of the position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, education, and other relevant business needs. Non-exempt roles may also include variable compensation, such as overtime and shift differentials, while exempt roles may include annual bonus targets and long-term incentives.
To be eligible for this role, candidates must have a JD degree, be admitted to a state bar in good standing, and be a registered US Patent Attorney. A degree in biomedical, electrical, or a related engineering field is preferred, as well as experience in the medical device industry.
