Spire Fellowship: Gain Hands-On Experience in the Office of the Solicitor General
The Nebraska Department of Justice is offering a unique opportunity for a recent law-school graduate to gain hands-on experience in the legal field through the Spire Fellowship. This fellowship, named after renowned attorney Robert M. Spire, provides motivated lawyers with the chance to work alongside experienced attorneys in the Office of the Solicitor General.
The Office of the Solicitor General is responsible for representing the State, its officers, and agencies in high-profile and high-stakes cases. In addition, the office provides legal advice to the Attorney General and drafts formal opinions, as well as advises on the State's involvement in multi-state litigation. As a Spire Fellow, you will have the opportunity to work on these cases and potentially even argue appeals.
To be considered for the Spire Fellowship, you must have excellent legal writing skills, strong legal judgment, and the ability to efficiently research and analyze complex legal problems. A license to practice law in Nebraska is also required, or a willingness to become licensed. If you are not currently licensed in Nebraska, information on admission by motion can be found on the Nebraska Supreme Court's website.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school - License to practice law in Nebraska or willingness to become licensed - Excellent legal writing skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Judicial clerkship experience - Less than five years of legal experience - Law review experience
