Work type: Full Time Administrative Location: Systems Office - Indianapolis, IN Categories: Information Technology General Description of Position: The Software Engineer will be responsible for a variety of duties related to the development, enhancement, and deployment of primarily web-based software systems. The Software Engineer will lead the design and development of scalable, functional software from business requirements while simultaneously providing support to existing applications. The Software Engineer will assist in determining the appropriate architecture for new software development while ensuring solutions are consistent and compatible with other IT initiatives. Major Responsibilities: Work the entire technology stack, including the database, application, and client tiers. Write best practice, reusable, maintainable, scalable, and well-documented code that adheres to policies and procedures. Develop new features and functionality to existing applications based on requirements documented by functional business units. Participate with and assist other IT teams as needed. Investigate, analyze, and make recommendations to management regarding technology improvements, upgrades, and modifications. Decide when to apply a combination of trusted 3rd party and original/custom technical solutions. Provide constructive feedback to members of the team through daily interaction and code reviews. Ability and willingness to learn new technologies as needed. Adheres to the policies and procedures of the college. Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Executive Director of ServiceNow and Web Development SUPERVISION GIVEN: None Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of Associate Degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience required. 5 years of professional web-based Programming experience in interpreted languages (e.g., Python) and/or compiled languages (e.g., Java, .Net) Detailed knowledge of each is not required. Must be willing to acquire the knowledge and skills of the respective languages as needed. 5 years of working with a relational database and SQL, drawing upon a variety of vendors (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc.). Detailed knowledge of each is not required. Must be willing to acquire the knowledge and skills of the respective vendors as needed. Experienced with front-end development using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML. Experience in one or more JavaScript frameworks (AngularJS, Backbone, JQuery, etc.). Experience with cloud-based/distributed systems and hosting (i.e., Azure, AWS). Experienced with common Internet protocols: HTTP, FTP, SSH, etc. Experience developing enterprise applications. Experienced with Linux and Windows operating systems. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences. Self-starter who takes initiative in solving problems while managing their own time Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and accomplish tasks within a team setting, or individually with limited direct supervision. Appreciation and understanding of user experience and usability as it pertains to the visual design and implementation of a web application. A customer service-focused attitude. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Demonstrated initiative and ambition for software development and delivering products from the ground up. Experience working within a face-paced, agile development environment. Familiarity with agile practices such as Scrum, stand-ups, estimations, etc. Experience with miscellaneous open-source software products such as Nginx, Redis, Apache, Django, or jQuery. Familiarity with Salesforce Apex code and migration Experience developing reusable APIs and micro-service architecture a plus Experience with continuous deployment and automated testing.
