The Senior Law Clerk / Attorney position at the US Attorney's Office in Salt Lake City, Utah is currently open for applications. Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance to attorneys by reviewing the work of paralegals and clerks. - Conduct expert legal research and writing on complex issues. - Review and summarize investigative reports from various agencies. - Analyze facts, evidence, and legal authorities in domestic and international investigations. - Use research and evidence to create persuasive legal documents. - Draft reports, develop training materials, and prepare responses to correspondence. - Coordinate with other support components to complete work requirements. - Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Must be a Bar Certified Attorney with a Law degree. - Two years' experience post-JD. - Ability to conduct legal research using various tools and resources. - Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. - Strong organizational and prioritization skills. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other common software applications. - Ability to work in a team environment and under pressure.
Preference will be given to applicants who are familiar with the specific policies and practices of the USAO and are able to start work immediately. This position requires U.S. citizenship and a minimum background investigation of 7 (or 10) years.
The USAO is responsible for representing the United States in legal matters and enforcing federal laws. The Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) Section focuses on recovering damages and penalties from defendants who commit civil wrongs against the United States. This includes cases involving fraud, kickbacks, consumer product safety, civil rights, drug violations, and misuse of federal funds.
