This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Senior Intellectual Property Counsel to join the US Legal Department at Chanel. This role will be responsible for managing trademark disputes and litigations, supporting trademark clearances and prosecution, and enforcing Anti-Diversion policies and procedures to protect the brand. The ideal candidate will have a JD from an accredited Law school and a minimum of 7 years of experience in the trademark area. Responsibilities:
- Manage U.S. Intellectual Property disputes, including drafting and reviewing cease and desist letters, preparing opposition notices and cancellation petitions, negotiating settlement agreements, and managing relationships with outside counsel. - Create and implement IP strategies and objectives that align with global and regional priorities. - Prosecute Trademark applications, assist in trademark clearance searches, and advise on USPTO office actions and renewals. - Advise key stakeholders on topics regarding copyright, patent, domain name, and trade secret. - Partner with the US Legal corporate team to prepare, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts. - Develop and implement strategies to achieve program objectives for Anti-Diversion. - Manage the Legal Anti-Diversion team and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enforce policies and protect Chanel's authorized distribution. - Plan, organize, and direct the operations of the Anti-Diversion program. - Develop and issue US reporting to Leadership and Senior Management. - Manage the program budget and implement educational resources to increase program knowledge and efficiency.
Requirements:
- JD from an accredited Law school. - Minimum 7 years of experience in the trademark area, including handling trademark prosecution matters, clearance searches, proceedings, and litigations. - Deep understanding of intellectual property law, primarily focusing on trademarks with some copyright and patent knowledge. - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Tech-savvy, including proficiency with cloud-based document and database systems. - Ability to work proactively, independently, and reliably on multiple projects under tight time frames. - This position is considered partially remote and requires a minimum of three days in-person office presence in our New York City Office.
Compensation:
- Anticipated base salary range: $134,900 to $185,000. - Other forms of variable pay may be offered. - Other components may include bonus potential, benefits, and/or perks.
