H1: Join Calpine Corporation as a Senior Counsel in the Legal Department H2: Advise on Financial and Regulatory Issues for America's Largest Generator of Electricity
Overview: Calpine Corporation, the largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources in America, is seeking a Senior Counsel to join their diverse and fast-paced in-house legal team. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with Calpine's Development and Operations teams and provide legal advice and support on a variety of issues related to energy and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities: - Serve as the principal attorney for Calpine's Development and Operations teams - Provide legal advice on financial, real property, tax, commercial, and corporate issues - Advise on regional, local, state, and federal regulatory and environmental issues - Draft, review, and provide advice on project-development and operational agreements - Develop, negotiate, and administer various commercial agreements - Oversee financing and environmental compliance, regulatory proceedings, and litigation matters - Work with business clients and outside consultants on new development projects - Manage outside counsel to minimize costs and maximize benefits
Qualifications: - Law degree and CA or other qualification to practice law in CA - 7-10 years of experience practicing commercial law, including corporate and/or real estate transactions - Experience with energy or environmental regulatory law preferred - Strong analytical, interpersonal, and project management skills - Ability to work independently and quickly gain expertise in new subject matter
