Risk and Compliance Lawyer - Full Time - New York, Raleigh, Washington D.C.

The Law Firm:
- Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer - Over 2,800 lawyers globally - Comprehensive service to national and multinational corporations, financial institutions and governments
The Legal Department:
- Manage the firm’s risk exposure and provide advice on legal and compliance issues - Made up of both qualified lawyers and non-lawyers - Support the firm in pursuing the effective management of regulatory, legal, operational, and information security risk
Role Summary/Purpose of Job:
- Risk & Compliance Lawyer - Key member of the Legal Department - Responsible for managing the firm’s risk exposure and providing advice on legal and compliance issues - Focus on business acceptance, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, client due diligence, sanctions issues, reputational and commercial risk, and other legal and compliance issues
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:
- Advise the partnership on business acceptance issues globally - Undertake due diligence and reputational risk assessment of new clients and matters - Assist the partnership with solutions to resolve conflicts, confidentiality, reputational and commercial risk, anti-money laundering (AML) compliance and sanctions issues - Answer questions from partners, associates and staff at all levels across the firm regarding US law, regulations and firm policies - Review and advise on client engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines - Advise the partnership on ad hoc queries relating to ethics and regulatory compliance - Remain current on the type of work that Freshfields undertakes across all sectors - Develop and maintain close working relationship with all members of the Legal Department - Assist with training to the firm on risk issues and be an ambassador for the Legal Department within the wider firm - Assist with the development and implementation of business acceptance processes as part of Legal Department and firm-wide programs
Key Requirements:
- Law degree and admitted to practice law in the US - High standards of accuracy and efficiency - Able to give clear and commercial advice on complex issues - Excellent drafting skills - Meticulous approach to maintaining records - Able to influence and liaise with all levels of staff - Able to manage a workload of key projects and day-to-day queries - High level of IT skills - Willing to work out of hours and travel as needed

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
- At least 4 years’ experience working as a qualified lawyer within a leading international law firm - Experience in compliance, conflicts, risk management or business acceptance department - Experience working in a large international team
Salary Information:
- Freshfields is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role in New York and California. - The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. - A reasonable estimate of the current range is $150,000 to $180,000.
