Job Description
GT3, JV is seeking a Full-time Physical Training Leader - Swim Coach at the Naval Station Great Lakes, Great Lakes, IL. Position is in support of the Naval Special Warfare Center (NSWCEN) Preparatory Course, overseeing students during training.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Prepare military students in: Running, swimming, agility and required physical training. This will include guidance and application of physical preparedness and training techniques for the BUD/S Physical Screening Test, to include but not limited to swim stroke development with and without fins, water confidence, running, and lower and upper body development.
The Physical Training Leaders will provide instruction and preparation to students at Naval Station Great Lakes, IL. The persons selected for these positions will have daily contact with junior sailors. As such, they must adhere to the highest standards of conduct in their interface with these sailors, and understand the student/instructor relationship, the duties of the Physical Training Leaders, and provide the experienced, professional, administrative and technical support required to achieve the desired degree of student preparation to accomplish program goals.
Maintain a high degree of personal fitness. The PTL needs to lead by example in this area. Specifically the PTL must be able to maintain an exemplary degree of physical fitness. One of the primary duties involves administering the Physical Screening Test (PST) to all applicants. Therefore the PTLs shall maintain a level of fitness to inspire applicants.
Job Requirements :
Employment Standards
A.A. or A.S. degree with focus in Health and Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field.
Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
Competitive swimming experience from USA sanctioned Club or College competition team.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of sound competitive swimming skills, technique and the ability to implement and teach these skills in a positive, healthy manner.
Strong writing and verbal communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Job requires teaching various blocks of instruction to include: nutrition, supplements, flexibility, and other courses with fitness in mind.
Desirable Experience and Standards
B.S. or B.A. degree with major in Health and Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field. Willing to substitute preferred degree field for superior experience and past performance.
Working Environment / Physical Activities :
This position requires OSHA Category I tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue. Also, will be outside in inclement weather. Ability to see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and persons. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching, squatting, stretching, bending for prolonged periods of time.
