Work type: Part Time Hourly Location: Lafayette, IN Categories: Academic Advising/Academic Support, Office/Clerical, Other General Description of Position: Responsible for providing general guidance and advising for new and continuing students and registering students for academic skills advancement, liberal arts and sciences, and program prerequisite courses. Provides academic advising and information designed to aid in the transferring of students to other institutions of higher education -Collaborate with Academic Advising to ensure all students have declared and documented a major field of study prior to completion of 15 earned credit hours. Major Responsibilities: Participates in and contributes toward a developmental, proactive, academic advising program. Provides general advising and registration assistance for students seeking degrees or certificates in any academic school. Collaborates with faculty advisors and other staff within academic schools to continue to maintain a seamless college-wide academic advising system for students. Assists the Office of Admissions to monitor and complete general admissions requirements. Assists to develop and implement proactive advisement activities. Assists with interpreting placement assessment results prior to registration. Registers and provides articulation information for those students seeking transfer/admission to a baccalaureate degree. Conducts all activities within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views. Promote same as an integral part of one's work. The above list of duties is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, or closely related field. Master's degree; experience in academic advising, admissions, or career counseling; and one year relevant employment experience and/or technology-related degree preferred. Other Requirements: Selected candidate for employment will be subject to pre-employment background checks, including criminal history check, and any offer of employment will be contingent upon that outcome. Travel to campus site locations may be required. Work Hours: 20 hours per week, schedule to be determined.
