Paralegal / Legal Assistant - Advocates for Family Health and Consumer Programs Salary Range: $43,400-$65,200 per year, depending on experience
LSEM, a nonprofit law firm, is seeking a Paralegal / Legal Assistant to support the Advocates for Family Health Program and the Consumer Law Program. This individual will work closely with attorneys to provide free legal assistance to vulnerable populations and disadvantaged communities.
Job Description:
- Conducting client intake and other case-opening tasks - Performing fact investigation and document gathering - Drafting pleadings, notices, papers, and correspondence - Providing litigation and administrative advocacy support - Drafting, cataloging, and organizing discovery requests and responses - Requesting medical records and following up with providers - Acting as a liaison between attorneys and clients - Contacting administrative agencies and courts on client matters - Providing clients with community resource referrals - Building and maintaining relationships with partner organizations and courts - Organizing and participating in community outreach/events - Assisting with general case management and file maintenance - Conducting legal research - Performing skip trace, asset searches, and real property records searches
Qualifications:
- Strong administrative skills required - Paralegal experience is a plus - Ability to work with elderly, disabled, and low-income clients - Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail - Ability to prioritize tasks from multiple supervisors - Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel - Familiarity or aptitude with case management software preferred - Open to creative and innovative ways of fulfilling the legal aid mission
