PAID LEGAL INTERNSHIP: Fall 2024 at Youth Homelessness Intake (Legal Counsel for Youth and Children) Virtual, Semester Open to 2nd and 3rd Year Law Students
Summary: - **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** is seeking a passionate and innovative law student to intern with their team starting in September 2024 - The intern will work virtually from anywhere with internet access and a computer - LCYC has attorneys working in multiple counties across Washington, but the Legal Supervisor for this position is based in King County - The internship will focus on LCYC's trauma-informed intake process and will have a direct impact on the lives of the young people they serve - LCYC values diversity and strongly encourages applications from people of color, those with lived experience, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ community, and other underrepresented and historically marginalized groups

Intern Duties: - The intern will primarily work on the intake process for youth and young adults seeking legal services in King County - Duties include answering intake calls and emails, conducting eligibility checks, providing referrals and resources, setting up appointments with attorneys, conducting conflict checks, and assisting with researching various civil legal matters - The intern will also participate in regular case staffings, monthly all-staff meetings, and virtual meetings with LCYC staff - They will also participate in trainings on topics such as child welfare, juvenile court, and trauma-informed services - Accurately tracking time and activities is required - The intern will also regularly participate in all-staff meetings, trainings, and conversations on equity and systemic racism

Qualifications: - Applicants must be enrolled in their 2nd or 3rd year of an accredited law school - Ability to commit to working 10-20 hours per week - Demonstrated commitment to social justice - Interest and ability to work with youth and families from diverse backgrounds - Flexibility, innovation, and ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment - Ability to effectively communicate legal concepts to youth in a developmentally appropriate manner - Ability to work professionally with youth and build trust and confidence - Ability to work under supervision and respond to training - Self-motivation and ability to work independently - Commitment to addressing racism at an individual, organizational, and systems level - Ability to handle high-stress situations with empathy and concern for clients - Fluency in Spanish is highly valued
Compensation: - The intern will be compensated at a rate of $24.67 per hour, or $26.11 per hour for Spanish language skills
