Nurse Paralegal/Legal Nurse Consultant – Philadelphia, PA (West Conshohocken)
Position Summary: - Full-time position in a thriving Healthcare practice in Philadelphia (West Conshohocken) office - Support attorneys in medical malpractice insurance defense with responsibilities related to medical records, experts, witnesses, and trial preparation - Opportunity to work independently and as part of a team
Essential Functions: - Review, summarize, and analyze medical records and provide an opinion on the merits of the case - Coordinate expert review, including researching and retaining experts, consulting on medical issues, and preparing expert reports - Serve as a point of contact and discuss medical issues with physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals - Assist with trial preparation, including trial notebooks, witness files, exhibits, etc. - Interact with litigation support resources to manage large volumes of documents - Interview witnesses and coordinate meetings and testimony of experts and witnesses - Research prior testimony of plaintiff's experts for use in cross examination - Conduct docket searches and maintain expert and deposition databases - Research medical conditions, terms, and issues - Enter billable time accurately and timely
Job Requirements: - Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor's Degree required - Paralegal experience in a litigation practice area preferred, with experience in analyzing and summarizing medical records a plus - Highly organized and able to prioritize workload - Able to take ownership and initiative in managing files and deadlines - Excellent communication skills and assertiveness in coordinating deadlines among multiple attorneys - Attentive to detail, extremely reliable, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively and efficiently - Able to adapt to changing priorities and remain flexible - Strong commitment to quality client service - Strong PC skills, especially MS Word and Excel
Equipment, Physical/Mental Demands, Working Conditions: - Personal computer and other office equipment used - Sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching required - Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds - Manual dexterity sufficient to operate office machines - Range of hearing and vision necessary to operate office machines and communicate with clients - Able to handle stress and make decisions in a fast-paced work environment - Able to grasp and apply new ideas and technologies - Able to communicate and interact successfully with various personalities at all organizational levels - Typical office setting, Monday-Friday business hours with occasional overtime
