Role and Responsibilities:
- The Multifamily General Counsel will oversee all legal functions related to AFI's multifamily real estate operations. - This includes ensuring compliance with industry regulations and minimizing risk. - The role requires a proactive leader who can navigate complex legal issues, advise on real estate transactions, and collaborate with various departments to drive the company's strategic initiatives.
Key Duties:
- Develop and implement legal strategies in line with the company's multifamily real estate objectives. - Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and industry standards. - Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with property acquisitions, financing, and operations. - Provide legal support for real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leases, and financing agreements. - Oversee any litigation or disputes involving the company, collaborating with outside counsel as needed. - Manage corporate governance matters, including board meetings, minutes, and compliance documentation. - Create and implement policies and procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance within the organization. - Conduct training sessions for employees on legal matters relevant to multifamily real estate. - Work closely with internal teams to promote legal and ethical business practices.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. - 10 years of experience as in-house counsel or in a law firm, with a focus on real estate law, particularly in the multifamily sector. - Strong understanding of real estate transactions, property management, leasing, and compliance. - Proven ability to manage complex legal issues and provide strategic legal advice. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working with diverse teams. - Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. - Must provide a list of 2-3 professional references.
