K&L Gates, a global law firm, is seeking a Matter Planning Analyst to join their team in various locations across the United States. This role will involve analyzing matter performance, reporting on budget-to-actual performance, and generating reports for offices and practices. The ideal candidate will have experience in business analysis or project management, including budgeting, and a Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or Information Technology. A Master's in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred. The salary for this position will range from $82,000 to $123,000, depending on factors such as prior experience and relevant expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Analyzing matter performance, reporting on budget-to-actual performance, and generating reports for offices and practices - Acting as a liaison between Finance, Marketing, IT, and the firm’s timekeepers - Focusing on pricing, budgeting, and matter management - Designing and developing Power BI dashboards and visualizations to provide actionable insights into matter performance, budgeting, and pricing - Developing solutions to complex data analysis and reporting requirements using tools such as Excel, Power BI, HighQ, and Smartsheet - Interacting with groups across the firm and working directly with attorneys, as well as Finance, Marketing, IT, and other departments - Working independently with lawyers to gather and understand requirements, developing a comprehensive understanding of scope, pricing, and other key factors essential to evaluating performance - Asking strategic questions to help scope projects effectively and provide valuable insights to challenge and refine matter management and performance - Possessing strong situational awareness and the ability to diffuse difficult or contentious situations
Requirements:
- 4 or more years of experience within Business Analysis or Project Management, including budgeting - Prior experience with training and developing training materials - Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science or Information Technology or other relevant background; Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent preferred
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment - Experience in leveraging Power BI, including Power Query Editor and DAX, to transform raw data into actionable insights - Excellent analytical skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel - Ability to organize, analyze and summarize large amounts of data to identify key performance indicators, trends and core concepts - Anticipate and correct problems, establish conclusions and develop creative solutions - Demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities in a changing and demanding environment - Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented environment - Ability to encourage and build positive relationships and communicate effectively with all co-workers and outside vendors - Effectively manages and communicates confidential issues
Working Conditions:
- General office environment, ability to travel to client sites, ability to work and communicate with a range of firm stakeholders - Frequent computer use at workstation or office, up to and over eight hours at a time - Frequently work at a fast pace, multitasked, with unscheduled interruptions - Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours - Office contact position requiring appropriate business attire - Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor - Access information using a computer or mobile device - Carrying a mobile device and accepting calls from colleagues during non-work hours
Salary:
The salary for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. It will range from $82,000 to $123,000.
