The organization, Centro Legal, is currently seeking a Managing Attorney for their Tenants' Rights Practice in Alameda County. The position is full-time and exempt, with a salary range of $96,448 to $103,776. The Managing Attorney will report to the Tenants' Rights Directing Attorney and will be responsible for providing leadership and innovation for the team of Tenants' Rights advocates. The ideal candidate will have a J.D. and be admitted to the California bar, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in housing law or public interest litigation. Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Vietnamese is preferred, but not required. The applicant must share Centro Legal's mission and vision of racial, economic, and social justice.
Primary responsibilities for the Managing Attorney position include directly representing low-income tenants in unlawful detainer trials and appeals, providing case supervision and informing legal strategy for attorneys, training and mentoring a diverse staff of attorneys, and supervising drop-in clinics. Other duties include providing Know Your Rights presentations to community-based organizations, collaborating with the Directing Attorney to administer and manage projects and programs within the practice, and presenting to key stakeholders on changes in law, policy, and practice. The Managing Attorney will also work with local, regional, and national partners on policy initiatives, funding, and litigation efforts as needed.
Qualifications for the position include a J.D., admission to the California bar, and fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Vietnamese preferred. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in housing law or public interest litigation, with trial experience and strong leadership skills. Knowledge and adherence to community lawyering principles, as well as excellent writing, research, analytical, and verbal communication skills are also required. The applicant must have a demonstrated commitment to civil liberties, tenants' rights, and public interest law, as well as a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Familiarity with working with clients in crisis or who are trauma survivors is preferred.
