Energy and Sustainability Manager will lead initiatives across the organization which assess and monitor the use of energy and water. This initiative will also promote programs which analyze the waste stream and minimize consumption. This position will work to reduce the medical center's energy expenses, environmental impact, and benchmark current usage. Additionally, this position will create policies and standard operating procedures to ensure reduction of environmental impact. Ensure a consistent, coordinated approach to sustainability across Montefiore facilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Develop and implement efforts across the medical center to reduce its environmental impact, the creation of solid waste and use of energy and water *Establish policies and standard operating procedures for initiatives which can be implemented on a department or division wide basis *Evaluate federal, state, and local statutes, related to energy and the environment *Research and evaluate marketplace trends related to increasing an organization's sustainability and reducing its environmental impact and use of energy and water *To ensure the medical center receives a reliable supply of oil, natural gas and electricity. Competitive bidding process must be used to select the energy supplier(s) which provide a reliable supply of energy at the most competitive prices *Manage Title V Emission Compliance *Track and evaluate the medical center's greenhouse gas emissions inventory to create programs which reduce emissions *Create and maintain a master database to track and analyze all initiatives related to reducing the medical center's environmental impact and energy and water use *To provide leadership and direction to the Green Team. Ensure the initiatives undertaken by the Green Team do not overlap or compete with initiatives undertaken by other groups within the medical center and that the team has a standard operating procedure to manage projects and develop metrics to measure outcomes *Serve as the medical center's liaison in state and local environmental initiatives, attend professional meetings and work with external organizations as appropriate *Research and manage federal, state, and local incentive programs (e.g., NYSERDA's Program Opportunity Notice) related to energy and the environment *Direct the grant application and compliance process as it relates to energy and the environment *Create standard operating procedures to determine the most cost-effective method of generating energy daily *Raise awareness of environmental and sustainability issues and programs within the medical center
QUALIFICATIONS:
*Minimum five (5) years of Sustainability or related field *Master's Degree *Knowledge of federal, state, and local statutes related to energy and the environment to which the medical center must adhere *Experience with energy suppliers that will be used to supply oil, natural gas and electric *Experience in financing and implementing environment and energy initiatives *Advanced understanding of programs to reduce consumption of energy and water use and how to implement said programs *Preferred background and/or exposure in a healthcare related field *Proficient in Microsoft Office. (i.e., Outlook, Power Point, Excel, and Word) *Solid oral/written communication, organizational and PC skills will be expected
