U.S. Litigation Staff Attorney/Senior Staff Attorney - Join IRAP and Fight for the Rights of Displaced People!
IRAP is seeking an experienced attorney to join our U.S. Litigation Department as a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney. This is a full-time, hybrid opportunity based in either New York City or Washington, D.C. Remote work candidates will also be considered. In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your legal skills to make a real impact in the lives of refugees, asylum seekers, and other marginalized communities in need of a safe home.
As a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney, you will have the opportunity to manage, supervise, lead, and engage in all aspects of litigation and litigation-related advocacy. This includes case development and filing, legal and factual research, client counseling and interviews, motions practice, discovery, resource creation, policy advocacy, and media advocacy. You will also have the chance to collaborate with other IRAP staff members to ensure that litigation is supporting and leveraging the work of other departments, including policy, legal services, and communications.
If you have a law degree and license to practice law in the U.S., along with 5-9 years of relevant legal experience, we encourage you to apply. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are also essential for this role. Fluency in languages such as Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Haitian Creole, Pashto, Somali, and Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities:
- Manage, supervise, lead, and engage in all aspects of litigation and litigation-related advocacy - Collaborate with other IRAP staff members to ensure litigation is supporting and leveraging the work of other departments - Represent IRAP in external relationships with advocates, pro bono firms, media, and donors - Participate in tasks that support the organization, such as joining hiring committees and providing feedback on organization-wide issues
Qualifications:
- Law degree and license to practice law in the U.S. - 5-9 years of relevant legal experience - Commitment to teamwork and working collaboratively with people of different backgrounds - Commitment to centering displaced people and equity principles in work - Openness to accepting and providing constructive feedback - Strong communication skills, both written and oral - Fluency in languages such as Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Haitian Creole, Pashto, Somali, and Spanish is a plus - Familiarity with immigration law is a plus
Compensation:
- Salary range between $90,525 - $105,009, based on years of work experience, education, and internal equity - Comprehensive benefits package, including fully paid family health insurance, retirement options, extensive PTO, parental leave, and opportunities for professional development
