Position Summary: Shumaker Law Firm is seeking a highly skilled and experienced litigation paralegal to join our team in Columbus, Ohio. This full-time, on-site position will primarily involve working with our litigation attorneys on business and regulatory disputes, with occasional work on environmental, real estate, and corporate matters.
Essential Duties: As a litigation paralegal at Shumaker Law Firm, you will play a crucial role in supporting our attorneys and ensuring the success of our cases. Your responsibilities will include:
- Drafting legal documents such as pleadings, motions, affidavits, and interrogatories, and filing them according to judicial procedures. - Assisting attorneys in organizing and managing case files, including maintaining document databases and electronic records. - Conducting legal research and analysis on statutes, regulations, articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources, and providing written analysis to attorneys. - Assisting with routine communications with clients and third parties. - Participating in trial preparation, including preparing exhibits and witness lists, and coordinating logistics for court appearances.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required: To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Associate degree is required. - Paralegal Certificate from an ABA approved program is preferred. - Four or more years of experience as a paralegal. - Strong project and case management skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. - Experience with transactional work (real estate and corporate) and environmental and regulatory matters is a plus.
