Paralegal III performs, but is not limited to the following duties:
The Paralegal will provide support services directly and independently supporting one or more Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs. The work requires a specialized knowledge of legal processes, federal and local rules of civil procedure, and federal court practices. In addition, the employee must have experience drafting and filing motions, preparing subpoenas, preparing and filing notices of depositions, drafting discovery documents, conducting legal research, identifring relevant case issues, researching facts and assisting generally with case investigations. It is preferred that the employee have experience conducting medical record reviews and analysis, and is familiar with medical coding and billing practices. Employee must have a working knowledge of litigation support principles, especially as those principles are applied to records containing personal, health, confidential and sensitive information as well as in various electronic formats, databases, and media. He/She will proficiently receive, organize, and maintain voluminous hard copy and electronic records generated in connection with matters in both the investigation and active litigation stages. The Paralegal will conduct ongoing detailed reviews and analysis of information, and will maintain records and data in an upto-date manner in formats consistent from case-to-case. Duties will include, but not be limited to, summarizing, highlighting, tabbing, logging, and charting records, data, and other information. The Paralegal must be willing and available to be trained as to the use of the USAO's in-house electronic document management systems, and how to identifu and organize pertinent records and data. The selectee also may assist the USAO's Criminal Division when these matters are being considered for parallel civil and criminal actions.
Requirements:
Undergraduate or Associates Degree or Paralegal Certificate and 3 or more years legal support and trial experience; Health related training or experience helpful; Automated litigation support experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills Paralegal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation system sufficient to perform manual and computer assisted legal research Proficient in operating a variety of computer applications, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and telecommunications Ability to analyze, organize and present large volumes of data through the use of common software programs Self-motivated and ability to work independently, organize evidence and produce written reports This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation.
