Job Title: Litigation Coordinator - Immigration Unit Organization: Prisoners’ Legal Services of New York (PLS) Location: Albany or Buffalo Salary Range: $95,000-$115,000 Experience: Minimum 10 years of litigation and federal appellate experience, preferably in immigration and crimmigration law
About PLS: - Statewide program providing civil legal services to incarcerated individuals in New York State prisons - Regional offices in Albany, Buffalo, Ithaca, and Newburgh
Job Description: - Oversee PLS’ immigration removal defense and appellate litigation practice - Provide legal representation to immigrants facing deportation while incarcerated - Minimize harsh immigration consequences through competent representation - Partially remote position with statewide travel required
Responsibilities: - Assess client community needs and implement advocacy and litigation strategies - Develop and provide trainings for PLS attorneys on relevant immigration law and professional responsibility - Serve as technical support in areas of removal defense, litigation, and federal appellate practice - Develop networks with other attorneys for pro bono and/or conflict counsel opportunities
Qualifications: - JD degree and bar admission in good standing in New York State or other state - Previous experience in litigation supervision and working with litigation teams - Deep knowledge and experience in immigration removal litigation and federal appellate work, particularly in crimmigration law - Commitment to immigrant rights and social justice issues - Exceptional organizational, written, and oral communication skills - Willingness to travel as needed
