Job Title: • Litigation Assistant - Entry-Level Role in Busy Employment Law Practice
Experience Information: • This role is suitable for someone looking to enter the legal profession, with the potential to progress into a fee-earning legal role in the future. • Previous experience in a legal environment is desirable but not essential.
Law Firm: • This role is within a leading international legal business, DAC Beachcroft. • With over 3,000 colleagues and a diverse range of capabilities, the firm offers a full-service offering, including growing Financial Services and Tech capabilities. • The firm represents a wide range of clients, from household names to government departments and NHS bodies.
Department: • This role is within the Employment, Pensions and Immigration department - North. • The department handles a variety of employment law cases and provides strategic, commercial, and regulatory advice to clients in the health sector.
Key Responsibilities: • Assisting in the management and progression of legal cases, ensuring deadlines are met and cases are proactively handled through to conclusion. • Supporting fee earners in meeting client and commercial requirements, including adherence to SLAs, KPIs, and financial targets. • Managing case files, including opening new matters, carrying out conflict checks, and setting up cases in the case management system. • Diarising key dates, including court and tribunal directions, and ensuring timely compliance. • Handling general document management, including scanning, organising, and maintaining paper and digital files. • Drafting and sending out routine case correspondence and dealing with the Employment Tribunal portal system for a number of fee earners. • Coordinating witness and counsel arrangements, including booking counsel and preparing instructions. • Preparing, indexing, and serving tribunal bundles. • Submitting payment requests and chasing settlement cheques and orders as required. • Performing other administrative duties as needed.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise: • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage a changing workload. • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. • Confident communicator, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to build rapport and inspire confidence in clients and colleagues. • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines. • Capable of making decisions within own areas of responsibility and working independently with minimal supervision. • Proficient in IT, including Microsoft Word and Excel, with experience using case management and finance systems preferred. • A co-operative team player with a positive and motivated approach to work.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience: • A law degree or related legal qualification. • Previous experience of working with case management systems (e.g. Visual Files).
