- Position: Legal Secretary at Maricopa County's Office of the Legal Advocate - Salary: $21.00 - $34.00 hourly - Job Type: Full time, unclassified - Experience: 2 years in a legal setting, knowledge in legal preparations and proceedings - Education: High school diploma required, post-secondary education may substitute for experience - Additional skills: Criminal law or indigent defense office experience, certificate of completion from accredited secretarial school or legal secretary training program
Responsibilities:
- Type and prepare legal documents, briefs, petitions, and memoranda from written copy, oral or mechanical dictation - Transcribe witness interviews from recordings - Answer multi-line phone, screen calls, transfer and take messages - Act as receptionist, direct visitors, sort and distribute mail - Coordinate case files and calendars, schedule meetings and interviews, prepare court calendars - Photocopy documents and confidential materials - Support attorneys representing clients charged with or convicted of crimes - Access information electronically and update internal case tracking systems - Hand-deliver and pick up documents on- and off-site - Box and retrieve files for long-term storage
Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in a legal setting with knowledge in legal preparations and proceedings - High school diploma required, post-secondary education may substitute for experience - Criminal law or indigent defense office experience preferred - Certificate of completion from accredited secretarial school or legal secretary training program preferred
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work with traumatic subject matter - Frequent interruptions, time pressures, high volumes of work, handling multiple or complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, frequently changing tasks, accuracy, decision making, concentration/vigilance, teamwork, working in close physical proximity with others, and public contact - May be required to lift up to 25 pounds and carry up to 25 pounds for short distances
