The Department of Public Service is seeking a Legal Intern for their Long Island Office (LIO) for the Spring 2025 semester. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in administrative, energy, and environmental law, specifically as it relates to the provision of electric service on Long Island by LIPA and PSEG LI. The Legal Intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in conducting legislative research, reviewing and analyzing regulatory filings, and drafting legal memoranda, letters, and discovery requests.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on administrative, energy, and environmental law issues related to electric service on Long Island. - Assist with legislative research. - Review and analyze regulatory filings concerning proposals to achieve the goals of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. - Draft legal memoranda, letters, and discovery requests. - Manage projects, including planning, reporting, and monitoring. - Create and review PowerPoint presentations. - Review contracts and Requests for Proposals (RFPs). - Assist attorneys with negotiations.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled as a 1st year law student, with a preferred concentration in Legal Studies. - Strong writing skills and attention to detail. - Excellent analytical skills. - Experience with government affairs is a plus. - Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Compensation:
This is a paid internship with a commitment of 20-30 hours per week. The intern will work at the Department of Public Service's Long Island Office in Nassau.
