CLS is a nationally recognized legal services program that provides free legal services to low-income individuals in Philadelphia since 1966. They are dedicated to fighting poverty, challenging systems that perpetuate injustice, and changing lives through advocacy and representation.
The Legal Compliance Attorney will report to and support the Deputy Director of Legal Practice. They will focus on ensuring CLS practices and procedures support advocates in meeting obligations to clients and other compliance requirements. This position will also help develop standards for and review certain categories of contracts, as well as assist with resolving ethics questions and managing potential professional liability issues. The position will primarily be remote and may be a 3 or 4 days per week position, depending on the candidate's experience and job demands.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and address compliance and risk issues, develop best practices and agency policy - Review and draft policies and procedures to ensure clarity, compliance, and risk management - Review and manage potential professional liability issues and claims - Assist with resolving client grievances - Respond to and resolve legal ethics questions in the legal practice and potential funding/research opportunities - Perform legal research and provide legal advice on ethical, practice, contractual, and compliance matters - Review contracts and work with legal management team to draft and review contracts - Develop and provide trainings on ethics, practice, and related issues - Ensure compliance with state and local lobbying rules and non-profit/legal services agency requirements - Work with HR and management teams to conduct adequate case reviews and evaluations - Identify tools for collecting client feedback and needs assessments - Develop strategies for updating and organizing policies and procedures - Assist with compliance and fiscal audits as needed
Qualifications:
- Admitted to PA Bar and in good standing - 3 years of practice experience - Strong attention to detail and deadlines - Excellent legal research and writing skills - Excellent oral communication skills - Excellent problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and negotiating skills - Dedicated to CLS's mission - Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills - Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
