Job Summary: Community Legal Aid (CLA) is seeking a dedicated and talented attorney to join our team and provide free civil legal assistance to low-income and elderly residents of central and western Massachusetts. The focus of this position will be on assisting veterans with a range of civil legal issues, including housing, family law, income support, and discharge status upgrades. The attorney will also engage in community outreach and education and work closely with community partners.
Responsibilities: • Provide effective client-centered advocacy for veterans • Represent tenants in eviction cases and assist tenants facing denials or terminations from public and subsidized housing programs • Assist clients with family law issues, income support, and discharge status upgrades • Engage in extensive community outreach and education • Work closely with community partners
Qualifications: • Recent law school graduates and more experienced attorneys are eligible to apply • Prior experience working with veterans and providing legal representation to tenants • Experience conducting community outreach and education • Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills
Salary and Benefits: • Starting salary of $71,500, based on a union scale and adjusted upward depending on experience • Generous benefits package including 401(k) with employer-paid contribution, low-cost health insurance for employees and dependents, malpractice insurance, and paid leave • Law school loan repayment assistance and relocation stipend • Hybrid work environment with a requirement to work in assigned office at least three days per week
