Lead Patent Agent - Protect Coherent's Inventions and Intellectual Property
Salary Information:
- $89,148 to $152,676 per year
Job Title:
- Lead Patent Agent
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, or a related science discipline and 7 years' experience OR - Ph.D. degree in physics, engineering, or a related scientific discipline and 3 years' experience
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications for datacom, telecom, and optical-networking inventions - Collaborate with inventors and management to identify and distill novel inventions with commercial value - Assess invention disclosures for patentability and business value - Conduct prior-art searches and evaluate patentability - Draft original patent applications - Manage patent prosecution in the US and other jurisdictions - Contribute to IP policies and strategies in alignment with company's goals and technologies - Collaborate with in-house and external counsel to protect Coherent's inventions and manage IP portfolio - Provide IP guidance and assistance, such as freedom-to-operate analysis - Stay current with changes in patent law and industry trends - Support IP litigation and licensing matters
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, or related science discipline and 7 years' experience OR - Ph.D. degree in physics, engineering, or related scientific discipline and 3 years' experience - USPTO registration required - Direct experience or working knowledge of optical technology, photonics devices, materials technology, or optical networking equipment is an advantage
Skills:
- Attention to technical and administrative detail - Strong communication skills - Ability to prioritize - Understanding of legal and technical aspects of patent process - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Working Conditions:
- Full-time during core business hours at remote or in-office Coherent site - Ability to work extended hours and travel domestically and internationally, when necessary
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and/or stand for 8-hour shift
