Lead Counsel I - Legal Contract Management Advisory (Hybrid):

As a Lead Counsel I in Legal Contract Management Advisory at Citi, you will be responsible for providing legal guidance and thought leadership for a wide range of legal issues and regulations relating to derivatives agreements and transactions. This is an intermediate level position that requires a pragmatic and proactive attorney with a thorough understanding of OTC derivatives and a solid grounding in laws and regulations for the geographies in which Citi operates. You will play a critical role in providing input into strategic decisions and developing proactive, risk-appropriate, and commercially practical solutions for the company.
Responsibilities:
- Providing guidance and advice on legal and regulatory requirements, including Dodd Frank and Basel capital treatment, related to derivative trading agreements - Assisting with drafting standard templates and legal opinions and negotiating complex contract provisions in documents such as ISDA Master Agreements and Credit Support Annexes - Coordinating with outside counsel for enforceability and netting opinions and annual updates for derivatives and foreign exchange documentation - Participating in internal committees and assisting with internal/external documentation audits and regulatory inquiries - Researching and providing legal counsel to internal stakeholders, participating in strategic initiatives, and providing subject matter expertise on relevant laws, rules, regulations, and industry practices - Collaborating with legal peers to analyze OTC derivatives documentation and escalating issues as appropriate - Partnering with internal lines of business and external counsel to achieve coordinated and efficient outcomes on matters of common interest - Assisting with the identification, evaluation, and management of legal, regulatory, and reputational risk - Managing day-to-day legal activities as a subject matter expert and providing advisory services to internal stakeholders - Monitoring and escalating complex legal issues and transactions as necessary - Applying sound judgement and demonstrating ethical behavior in decision making and managing others
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in financial services - Knowledge of banking regulations and laws related to OTC derivatives - Familiarity with international laws, regulations, and practices - Strong communication and negotiation skills - Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and relationship management skills - Ability to apply sound judgement in a fast-paced environment - Licensed to practice law in good standing
Education:
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree
