The Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy (DPA) is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Law Clerk. As a nationally recognized model statewide public defender system, DPA is committed to ensuring fair and just outcomes in the criminal justice system while protecting individual liberties.
In this role, you will work closely with our criminal defense team in the Bowling Green (North) Trial Office. We are looking for someone who has a passion for helping the most vulnerable in their community. The ideal candidate will have recently completed all coursework at an ABA accredited law school and is planning to take the bar exam or has recently received their license to practice law.
The successful candidate will have exceptional planning and organizational skills, be self-directed, and thrive in a team environment. You will work with a diverse team, including attorneys, investigators, alternative sentencing workers, and office administrative staff. We are looking for individuals who understand the privilege of representing our clients and are committed to serving the people of Kentucky.
Responsibilities: - Conduct legal research and writing to support attorneys representing defendants - Interview clients - Assist with other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements: - Completion of twenty-four semester hours at an American Bar Association accredited law school
Working Conditions: - Primarily office setting with minimal travel required
Probationary Period: - Initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111
