The ideal lateral attorney candidate should possess a strong academic record from a top law school, judicial clerkship experience, and one to six years of experience in a litigation or advocacy-based practice. Candidates must also be Texas licensed or eligible.

- A great academic record from a top law school - Judicial clerkship (applying while you are still a clerk is fine) and/or one to six years of experience in a litigation or advocacy-based practice - Texas licensed or eligible - The ability to take clients and their problems seriously, but also have a good sense of humor
