The Administrative Office of the Courts is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Judicial Specialist 2 at the Rio Arriba Magistrate Court in Espanola, NM. This is a full-time, permanent position with a target pay range of $18.824 - $23.530 per hour or $39,154 - $48,942 annually. The successful candidate will have at least two years of experience in court case processing, legal secretarial work, or a related field such as advanced customer service, data processing, or banking/financial experience.
The First Judicial District Court is recruiting for one, full-time, classified, Judicial Specialist 2 position #00044808-23100, for the Rio Arriba Magistrate Court in Espanola, New Mexico. The successful candidate will be responsible for using the case management system to open, docket, and close cases, as well as providing customer service to pro se litigants and performing various court procedures. Finalist(s) may be subject to criminal background checks.
Job Duties: • Utilize case management system to open, docket, and close cases based on judgement details. • Provide customer service to pro se litigants by providing general procedural information. • Process and maintain court documents, files, and case materials. • Assess, record, and reconcile monies and prepare bank deposits. • Use electronic filing to review incoming filings. • Accurately disburse bond payments and prepare bond reports. • Reconcile billing and invoices from contracted vendors. • Prepare, proofread, edit, and mail out documents. • Assist with case hearings and maintain cash till. • Provide public case information to parties, attorneys, and other outside agencies. • Prepare for and manage jury trials. • Organize case files for archiving and destruction. • Research case status data. • Prepare court records for cases on appeal. • Ensure office, courtrooms, and equipment are operational. • Serve as a court monitor. • Perform clerical and technical duties related to case processing, file maintenance, and jury management. • Manage jury trial calendar for judges. • Communicate jury procedures and updates to internal staff. • Serve as a courtroom clerk. • Support other courts within the judicial district. • Instruct prospective jurors on completing information and provide necessary forms. • Coordinate with Specialty Programs within the court. • Accept, maintain, and file court exhibits. • Gather, deliver, and file recordings and receipts for logs and exhibits. • Troubleshoot recording equipment and maintain technical logs. • Retain case material and safeguard evidence. • Act as a liaison between court personnel, litigants, and attorneys. • Other duties as assigned.
Competencies/Qualifications: • Knowledge of legal terminology and phrases. • Basic knowledge of jury service. • Familiarity with filing methods and case processing. • Knowledge of Specialty Court Programs. • Proficiency in research methodology. • Understanding of court fee accounting practices. • Familiarity with court monitoring procedures. • Knowledge of Court Clerk’s Procedures Manual and Code of Ethics. • Understanding of court and State Language Access Policies. • Knowledge of the Certified Language International Interpreting Line. • Familiarity with the organizational structure of the judiciary.

Qualifications: • High school diploma or GED required. • Two (2) years of experience in court case processing, legal secretarial work, or related field. • Additional post-secondary education in a related field may substitute for up to one (1) year of experience. • Typing certification from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions may be required. • May be requested to complete the NM Court Monitor Certification Examination.
