Job Description
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Develops and negotiates co-op/internship opportunities between students, faculty advisors, and area employers. Assists students/clients to gain work opportunities and tracks placements. Consults with potential employers and area business representatives regarding current co-op/Internship and job opportunities. Assists with the planning and implementation of all job fairs, and coordinates co-op/Internship recruitment events. Assists the career development staff in offering workshops, seminars, and career infusion projects. Functions as the HCC liaison with local workforce organizations and cooperative education/internship associations. WORK PERFORMED Manages the co-o program, submits requisitions for co-op expenditures, recruits trains and assigns co-op faculty advisors, oversees the co-op seminar, finalizes grades for students participating in the co-op program, and provides problem resolution as needed. Networks with local workforce organizations and cooperative education associations to stay abreast of work and market trends. Develops relationships with area employers to create work and co-op/internship opportunities for students/clients. Trains the office staff in the preparation of co-op packets, and in providing general co-op information to students. Assists in process improvement activities to improve the job assistance process including the job database, and follow-up procedures to document placements. Develops and presents workshops on pre-employment skills, co-op seminar topics, and internet job/career search techniques. Assists students with resume writing, interview preparation and applying for jobs. Assists with career infusion projects and acts as a consultant to faculty in ways to incorporate "real world of work" experiences within their curriculum. Plans faculty development workshops highlighting successful "world of work" initiatives in the curriculum. Coordinates with college departments to share work opportunities and track placements. Develops marketing plan for job assistance, co-op and internship opportunities including conducting class visitations, and providing faculty development workshops. Attends the Academic Support, Counseling & Career Services staff meetings. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BA in counseling, student personnel, business, or human resources plus four years of related experienced required. MA in similar fields with two years of related experience preferred. Knowledge of current job trends in the local, state, regional and federal labor markets Experience with job placement and co-op education placements. Knowledge of using the Internet in job and career exploration. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Proficient in Microsoft Word, Access, Windows XP, PowerPoint, Internet, and Microsoft Outlook, and career management systems. Excellent communication skills to work one on one with clients, employers, faculty, community representatives and to conduct small and large group presentations. Occasional weekend programs required. May need to work evening and weekend hours as needed and for special events. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Regular attendance is a requirement of this job. Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.
