Summary: Income Tax Manager, State and Local Tax, responsible for advising clients on tax implications, recommending alternate courses of action, and identifying methods for tax compliance. This role involves marketing, networking, and business development, as well as staying updated on potential changes in tax policy. The STS SALT Manager will also provide expertise to clients and work closely with Core Tax Partners, Directors, and Senior Managers. The salary range for this position is $76,000 - $160,000, with a higher range for NYC, Long Island, and Westchester locations.

Job Duties:

- Research complex situations and conduct thorough analysis using appropriate sources
- Develop relationships with state tax authorities
- Review tax returns and respond to notices from state taxing authorities
- Assist with tax exams and provide exam support
- Draft tax memorandums, opinions, and other documentation
- Apply tax consulting sub-specialties and collaborate with other STS professionals
- Manage tax planning process and ensure engagement letters are adopted
- Develop consultative selling strategies
- Manage client expectations
- Represent clients in front of tax authorities
- Utilize tax-related software and research tools
- Provide technical client service to multi-state companies
- Negotiate settlements and voluntary disclosure agreements
- Prepare tax accrual workpapers
- Understand and apply industry standards and firm policies for accounting for income taxes
- Review tax implications and suggest alternative courses of action
- Develop new ideas to reduce taxes and expenses
- Research potential tax strategies
- Suggest marketing approaches for new client acquisition

Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Supervise STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements
- Ensure proper training on tax software
- Evaluate performance and assist with professional development
- Provide feedback and complete performance evaluations
- Act as Career Advisor

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- Master's degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.D. preferred
- More than 5 years of experience in state and local/multi-state tax
- Prior experience supervising tax professionals
- Experience with tax provisions and corporate taxation preferred
- CPA certification or other relevant certification preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with tax applications and research tools
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently or in a group
- Proven ability to manage a team and delegate tasks
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and internal personnel
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact
- Advanced knowledge of tax standards and relevant information sources
