Scope of Work: - Assist with providing comprehensive legal services to refugees and other noncitizens through the Immigration Legal Services department. - Work with Senior Staff Attorney and DOJ-Accredited Representative to assist clients with immigration applications and petitions. - Conduct advocacy before administrative bodies such as USCIS and the U.S. Department of State. - Conduct community outreach to refugee and immigrant populations. - Complete projects and administrative duties as assigned.
Responsibilities: - Conduct intake and immigration interviews with assistance from interpreter and immigration staff. - Prepare and complete immigration applications and petitions for submission to USCIS. - Resolve complex eligibility and evidentiary issues. - Draft persuasive declarations for clients and third parties. - Identify and resolve case processing issues. - Maintain meticulous case files and record case notes in immigration case management database. - Conduct community outreach. - Assist with projects and administrative duties as assigned.
Learning Outcomes: - Develop skills in client counseling, issue spotting, legal research, and preparing immigration applications. - Gain knowledge and understanding of refugee resettlement and immigration issues. - Adhere to ethical rules and best practices. - Work independently and exercise good judgment. - Enhance intercultural communication skills and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Requirements: - Enrolled in J.D. program at ABA accredited law school or graduate program in legal studies (undergraduate paralegal program considered). - Strong interest in refugee resettlement and immigration issues. - Commitment to ethical rules and best practices. - Ability to work independently and elevate issues to supervisors. - Proficiency in Spanish, Dari, Farsi, or Pashto preferred. - Excellent time management and organizational skills. - Strong intercultural communication skills.
Reporting: This position reports to the Senior Staff Attorney.

The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (IRC) is seeking a motivated and dedicated Immigration Legal Services Summer Intern to join our team in Tucson, AZ. As a part of the Immigration Legal Services department, the intern will assist with providing comprehensive legal services to refugees and other noncitizens. This is a part-time, in-person position open to expatriates and offering hourly compensation.
