Bering Straits Technical Services (BSTS) is seeking a HVAC Mechanic to perform maintenance and administrative efforts for HVAC and Repairs in Red River Army Depot, Texarkana, Texas . ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Assists in troubleshooting, diagnosis, service and repair of heavy commercial air conditioning and multi-zone heating and cooling systems. Test electrical circuits or components for continuity, using electrical test equipment. Test pipe or tubing joints or connections for leaks, using pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution. Join pipes or tubing to equipment and to fuel, water, or refrigerant source, to form complete circuit. Reassemble and test equipment following repairs. Repair or replace defective equipment, components, or wiring. Layout and connect electrical wiring between controls and equipment, according to wiring diagrams, using electrician's hand tools. Obtain and maintain required certifications. Install, connect, and adjust thermostats, humidistats and timers, using hand tools. Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area. Inspect and test systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions. NON - ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements : QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURE Required: Must be available during working hours and within one hour after regular working hours. Must have Texas licenses and certification. Must have experience in HVAC, air handling, deionizer water, chilled water, condenser, hot water, compressed air, electronic gate systems, and boilers. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must have current Texas driver’s license. Three (3) years of related experience. Preferred: Boiler Tender certification Associate's Degree Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications. Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools. The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. At times lift and handle as much as 75 pounds. Visual acuity to review written documentation and ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job is performed in a noisy and hot and dusty environments and work with and around water, steam, gas, and eletrican distribution and power systems related to assigned equipment . Injury exposure could be severe cuts and bruises; considerable physical effort of hands and arms required. This position requires driving and working out of doors in extreme heat and possibly intermittent weather.
