Bering Straits Technical Services (BSTS) is seeking a Service Contract Act (SCA) General Maintenance Worker to perform routine maintenance duties including rough carpentry, painting, simple plumbing, electrical work, and basic equipment or facility repairs. All carpentry, electrical work, or plumbing repairs are performed under supervision by qualified personnel. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Reports to supervisor daily to receive assignments. Collaborate with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment. Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems. Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified procedures. Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work. Changes light bulbs, may replace fixtures, and does similar minor electrical tasks. Opens clogged drains, fixes leaks, and performs other simple plumbing jobs. Assists with loading or unloading trucks and moving furniture when needed. Maintains tools and maintenance equipment in working order. Will keep maintenance room in neat condition. NON - ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements : Required: High School Diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) Certificate. Must be a steady, reliable worker. Must be able to read simple instructions and follow simple diagrams. Must be able to perform simple tasks independently after being given specific instructions. Must have general knowledge of simple equipment used in the building trades. Must have knowledge of acceptable maintenance services including occupational safety and health regulations. Must be able to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to complete each task assignment. Must have a valid driver's license Preferred: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the field Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly. Ability to communicate both orally and writing with internal and external clients and co-workers. Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Injury exposure could be minor cuts and bruises; considerable physical effort of hands and arms required. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires driving and working out of doors in extreme heat/ cold and possibly rainy weather and be able to work shifts if needed. Physical stamina and strength in all of its forms (endurance, temperature/ climate, stress, etc) is necessary SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
