Job Description: The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (NMFA) is seeking a highly qualified General Counsel to join our team in Santa Fe. This position will report to the Deputy Director and provide legal counsel and services to NMFA, as well as manage the day-to-day operations of the Legal department. The ideal candidate will have a J.D. degree from an accredited university and 8-10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with at least 5 years in local or state government or closely affiliated agencies.
As the General Counsel, you will be responsible for researching legal issues related to local government functions, programs, and projects, and providing legal opinions and interpretations. You will also advise on alternative courses of action and assist outside/contract counsel in preparing legal documents for court cases. Additionally, you will provide technical advice and information to legislators and monitor contracts for compliance with terms and agency policies.
Key skills for this position include experience coordinating financing transactions, disclosure and reporting for investors and creditors, and knowledge of corporate, property, banking, finance, and general legal issues. Familiarity with federal and state programs and understanding of government processes and methods are also highly desired. Previous experience in local government legal issues and an understanding of legislative processes at the state and municipal level are also beneficial.
