MRR is seeking a motivated and experienced Government Liability/Labor & Employment Defense Attorney to join our team in Ohio. Our firm, known for its expertise in civil rights and government liability defense, is looking to expand our practice and take on new and complex cases. Position: Government Liability/Labor & Employment Defense Attorney Location: Ohio Salary: Competitive with bonus structure Benefits: Group Health, Dental, Vision, Life insurance and 401(k) Plan with employer contribution and professional financial advisement services Work Environment: Hybrid remote working
Responsibilities: - Represent insurance carriers, self-insured public entities, joint self-insurance pools, third-party administrators and managing general agents on complex liability issues facing public agencies - Counsel and represent public and private companies, and public sector entities on labor and employment issues arising from federal employment laws such as Title VII, ADEA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, WARN, and their Ohio counterparts - Handle lawsuits and administrative proceedings in federal and state courts, and before the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, National Labor Relations Board, and Department of Labor - Conduct research, writing, and oral advocacy for cases - Analyze legal issues and develop case strategies - Prepare and respond to written discovery, take and defend depositions, and communicate with expert witnesses - Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop case strategies - Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, courts, and opposing counsel
Requirements: - 1 to 3 years of civil litigation experience, preferably in civil rights and government liability defense - Experience with government immunity defenses is a plus - Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy abilities - Strong analytical skills for dispositive motion practice - Proficiency in written discovery, depositions, and communication with expert witnesses - Detail-oriented and organized - Collaborative and able to work well with senior attorneys - Effective communication skills with colleagues, clients, courts, and opposing counsel
