Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our team at Sterne Kessler Law Firm. In this role, you will be responsible for filing new patent applications worldwide and providing support to our foreign filing department. This is a full-time position, but can also be a hybrid role with the option to work remotely from approved US locations outside of the Washington, D.C. area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process the filing of new foreign patent applications worldwide, including EPC, PCT, and national cases - Prepare and review correspondence with foreign associates, clients, and associates regarding new applications, formal requirements, and filing details - Order certified copies from the US Patent & Trademark Office - Work with vendors, patent office personnel, consulate offices, and government agencies to obtain necessary certifications and legalizations - Review docket reports for accuracy and maintain a daily and personal docket - Stay up-to-date on foreign filing requirements, tax laws, and renewal and expiration data
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of foreign filing experience at a law firm - Experience with design patents is highly desirable - Strong personal initiative and good judgment skills - College degree and/or paralegal certification preferred - Ability to manage workload independently and meet deadlines under pressure - Flexibility to work overtime when needed
Salary Information:
The good faith base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000 per year. The actual salary rate offered will depend on factors such as years of relevant experience, education, and overall qualifications.
