Federal Tax Counsel - Basking Ridge, New Jersey

Verizon is seeking a Tax Counsel with broad knowledge of US Federal income tax law to join our tax legal team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner with business units and provide tax support for new products and initiatives, identify potential tax issues, and develop practical solutions to mitigate tax risks for the company. You will also be responsible for identifying and implementing tax planning opportunities and strategies, as well as representing Verizon in tax audits and before tax authorities. The ideal candidate will have a JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience, as well as admission and good standing in at least one state.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with business units to provide tax support for new products and initiatives - Identify potential tax issues and develop practical solutions to mitigate tax risks - Design and implement tax planning opportunities and strategies - Represent Verizon in tax audits and before tax authorities - Provide support for special projects such as acquisitions, dispositions, and financings - Assist with tax accounting and compliance initiatives - Assess the impact of new US Federal income tax legislation and regulations - Determine the tax impacts of restructuring Verizon legal entities - Support Verizon's head of transfer pricing
Qualifications:
- JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience - Admission and good standing in at least one state - Experience in a top law firm and/or the tax department of a multinational company - Excellent tax research and analysis skills - LL.M. in Taxation or Masters in Taxation (preferred) - Experience with international tax concepts and transfer pricing (preferred) - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - Strong work ethic and ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment - Ability to collaborate with multiple teams and exercise sound judgment
