The Orleans Public Defenders (OPD) is seeking a full-time Experienced Staff Investigator to join their team. The Orleans Public Defenders Office provides holistic, community-based representation in Orleans Parish. Role and Responsibilities:
As a Staff Investigator, you will work closely with OPD Staff Attorneys to investigate alleged crimes and put together the best possible defense for each client. Your duties will include in-office tasks such as searching and requesting records, reviewing discovery, and preparing for trial. You will also be responsible for field work, such as locating and interviewing witnesses, taking statements, and serving subpoenas. This role requires regular in-person contact and travel to various locations, including the courthouse, local jails, and correctional facilities.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a demonstrated interest in working with underserved communities. The ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and willingness to do field work are essential. Proficiency in multitasking and good non-legal research skills are also required. Candidates must have access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license. Two years of investigative experience and fluency in Spanish or Vietnamese are preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
The organization offers a competitive salary range of $45,000 to $72,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
