Work type: Full Time Administrative Location: Hamilton County, IN Categories: Administrative/Professional, Executive/Director/Management, Other General Description of Position: The Executive Director of Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive gift prospect list including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective donors. The Executive Director of Development will develop, grow and manage a portfolio of prospects within the institution’s database. The Executive Director of Development will work closely with faculty and staff, both within the Hamilton County campus service area and statewide to promote the acquisition of philanthropic support. A successful Executive Director of Development works efficiently managing time, develops strategies to obtain solicitations, and creates donor relationships that establish gifts to meet the strategic goals of the institution. Major Responsibilities: Customer Service: • Demonstrate a strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving and desire to identify and support student success. • Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported. • Go beyond the easiest or surface answer for a student, or an internal or external customer, and get to the root cause of the problem, question or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible. Responsibilities: • Directly responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of a portfolio of gift prospects, which includes individual donors, foundations and corporations. • Develop and strengthen community relationships to further the mission of the College and to bring in resources to support students, faculty, and programs. • Develop and propose strategies for solicitation of gifts, including: o Determining ongoing relationships with prospect/donor o Recommending specific purpose and level of gift o Identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation o Assuring that solicitations are carried out. • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: o Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors o Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers o Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure o Make solicitations when appropriate o Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition. • Process documentation in Raiser’s Edge to include action items, strategies and progress tracking. Work closely with other gift solicitors to insure effective coordination of effort with their programs and to reinforce the prospect relationship continuum. • Participate, as required, in Development team efforts including solicitation strategies for key prospects and internal planning efforts. • Co-coordinate effective programing for recognition, involvement and stewardship of major and special gifts donors in coordination with the statewide and local Foundation office. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Chancellor SUPERVISION GIVEN: Director of Development Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. • Five years of successful fundraising experience including face to face solicitations, preferably in higher education. • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to conduct public speaking engagements without instruction. • Exceptional written communications and research abilities. • Highly self-motivated and organized ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and donors in order to develop relationships between them and the college. • Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the college’s fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with faculty, trustees, volunteers, and the development team. • Proven innovative ability in fundraising process to develop connections with unrelated prospects.
