Job Description
The principle expectation is that the Rig Intake Lead role would be filled by an individual that would be capable of transitioning into the Deep-water Drilling Superintendent position. Initially the role will be to provide expertise, guidance, and support to the rig intake team. Once in the Drilling Superintendent role it would be to provide expertise, guidance and support to deep-water projects, primarily supporting a deep-water exploration program offshore Atlantic Canada. In line with the client’s matrix style management framework, this role will report through the Global Drilling & Completions organization. Directing the Intake Team in accomplishing and meeting the following requirements. Requirements of Flag State (UK) • Identify all required certificates and timeline to achieve. • Has a crew with required certification. • Complies with minimum standards and relevant IMO conventions. • Reflects acceptable conditions of safety in regard to all spaces and equipment. MODU Code • Construction, strength and materials. • Subdivision, stability and freeboard. • Machinery installations for all types of units. • Electrical installations for all types of units. • Machinery and electrical installations in hazardous areas for all types of units. • Machinery and electrical installations for self-propelled units. • Periodically unattended machinery spaces for all types of units. • Fire safety. • Life-saving appliances and equipment. • Radio communication and navigation. • Lifting devices, personnel and pilot transfer. • Helicopter facilities. • Operations. CNLOPB requirements • Ensuring that upcoming FORRI Regulatory changes are identified. • Requirements of the Certifying Authority acting on behalf and at the request of the CNLOPB: Requirements of Transport Canada regarding the MOU with CNLOPB maritime matters. • IMO STCW 1995 Convention, seafarer’s certification and training. • Environmental Response and Systems to negate the impact on the environment • Navigational Safety • Compliance with the various Maritime Conventions Job Duties/Responsibilities (Deep-water Drilling Superintendent): • Leading the well operations team, providing guidance to other project stakeholders in delivering safe, effective, and efficient well operations. • Collaboration to deliver exploration drilling programs in Atlantic Canada, engaging with the project team on aspects associated with well operations planning and execution. • Ensuring well operations are conducted in accordance with governance and consideration to key operational interfaces and ensuring well objectives are delivered. • When a deviation / dispensation from Client governance is identified as being required, document deviation via Management of Change process. Ensure thorough risk assessment, with review and sign off by responsible D&C Management team. • Developing a strong HSE culture within project teams, supporting HSE training for teams, encouraging use of available tools to effectively plan and deliver well operations safely. • Providing leadership on any HSE issues that might arise during the program. Ensure that any incidents are properly investigated, tracked and closed out within corporate reporting tools. • Supporting the application of risk management principles through all stages of the Integrated Offshore Well Delivery process including recording identified risks in a register and tracking / closing out the mitigative actions. • Communication of identified risks and possible mitigation solutions to Client project stakeholders and external project stakeholders. • Engaging with regulator, industry peers and Client regulatory compliance team to ensure the project is aligned with local regulatory requirements. • Supporting submission of well permit applications to gain regulatory authorization in a timely manner during well planning and execution. • Tracking operations effectively to ensure well program remains compliant throughout, ensuring regulatory reporting requirements with respect to HSE incidents are met. • Ensuring all post-well submissions to regulatory bodies are compliant with regulatory submission expectations and are delivered to the regulator in a timely manner. • Liaising with Supply Chain Management (SCM) team to generate key documentation and strategies including contracting and procurement strategy and equipment quality plans as well as providing technical inputs during the competitive bid process. • Actively engaging with the rig contractor, service providers, and equipment manufacturers to ensure effective support of well operational excellence goals. • Liaising with Logistics team to generate key documentation and strategies including logistics strategy as well as providing direction to optimize materials load out to well site and personnel transportation schedules. • For new technologies being applied, providing input to engineering team when performing a robust critical tool analysis approach. • Capturing key lessons during the design, planning and execution process, so that lessons can be applied to other projects where Client has either an operated or non-operated presence. • Ensuring that all training courses required to maintain competence are identified and attended. • Providing mentoring and training for development of less experienced personnel across the onshore and offshore teams. • Ensure direct reports are qualified and competent to perform their tasks. Identify competency gaps via internal T&C assessment tool and plan appropriate training to resolve any gaps. • Knowledgeable in deep-water MODU limitations and capabilities, including optimization solutions to improve project performance, while ensuring well objectives are delivered safely and efficiently • Experienced with procurement of well equipment and tendering of drilling services • Effective in applying contractor management principles • Knowledgeable in deep-water well control equipment and deep-water well control operations • Can demonstrate experience with risk management techniques and process safety concepts in terms of effectively delivering wells.
