Responsibilities:
Evaluate, analyze, and provide guidance on coverage issues for Professional, Casualty, and Property claims. Draft comprehensive coverage and denial letters to effectively communicate with policyholders and other stakeholders. Oversee outside coverage counsel and supervise coverage litigation. Serve as internal claims counsel to support adjusters and resolve complex coverage matters. Proactively negotiate settlements within designated authority levels. Conduct legal research and provide coverage opinions on all product lines. Develop and present training programs on legal coverage matters. Assist in drafting policy language in collaboration with underwriting and corporate legal teams. Travel as needed to attend legal proceedings and participate in customer service visits.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate (JD) and 3-7 years of claims handling, claims counsel, or relevant legal experience. Ability to evaluate complex coverage issues, negotiate effectively, and communicate clearly and concisely. Strong organizational skills to handle multiple cases and maintain efficient operations. Familiarity with Westlaw and proficiency in legal research.
