Job Description:
As a Counsel at GEICO, you will have the opportunity to defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and handle first party insurance defense cases. This position is with GEICO Staff Counsel located in McAllen, TX. We are looking for experienced and qualified individuals to join our team.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda - Provide opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department - Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations before trial - Defend cases by trial or dispositive hearing, as assigned
Qualifications:
- 7-9 years of experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury litigation - Juris Doctor degree - Admission to the Texas Bar - Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Texas and meet and maintain licensing requirements - Ability to travel as required - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Ability to follow complex instructions and handle multiple tasks
Preferred Qualifications:
- Civil litigation experience - Insurance defense-related litigation experience - Professional communication skills
Salary Information:
The annual salary range for this position is $118,900.00 - $185,525.00. The final salary offered will depend on factors such as the scope of the role, the candidate's experience and qualifications, and market considerations.
