Counsel - Senior Legal Role with GEICO in Chevy Chase, MD and New York City, NY, offering a hybrid remote position with full-time hours.
Overview: GEICO is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Counsel to join their Legal Operations, Commercial & Corporate Law Division. This role will report to the Associate General Counsel & Corporate Secretary and provide broad corporate law support to GEICO's Finance organization. The Senior Counsel will also be responsible for overseeing the corporate governance of GEICO's entities. This is a great opportunity to join a fast-growing legal team and work on important strategic matters. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong judgment, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.
Key Responsibilities: - Provide legal advice on a variety of corporate law matters, including treasury, sanctions, compliance, corporate governance, and regulatory reporting. - Prepare and review company policies and procedures. - Advise on compliance initiatives. - Manage outside counsel. - Oversee compliance with laws and regulations and conduct legal research and analysis. - Communicate with state and local regulatory bodies.
Requirements: - Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. - Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. - 7-10 years of corporate law experience at a law firm, government, and/or in-house. - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects. - Experience working with cross-functional teams. - Experience managing outside counsel.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in the insurance industry. - Knowledge of sanctions, compliance, treasury, licensing, and/or regulatory matters. - Experience with subsidiary entity governance.
Location: This is a hybrid role, with the selected candidate expected to work 3 days onsite at GEICO's office in either New York City, NY or Chevy Chase, MD.
Salary: The annual salary range for this role is $162,000.00 - $254,000.00. The final salary offered will be based on various factors, including the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, and work location.
