Summary: The Counsel, Regulatory Compliance for Seniors Housing at Welltower will be responsible for driving the data and analytics program specific to healthcare regulatory compliance across the company's network of properties. This role will collaborate closely with the Legal and Business Insights teams to build relevant data platforms, ensuring accurate tracking of regulatory data and business insights data. The Counsel will also identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, advise on regulatory and compliance aspects of acquisitions and transitions, and communicate regulatory changes effectively to stakeholders. A law degree and 5 years of healthcare regulatory compliance experience is required for this role, along with strong familiarity with Federal and State health care laws, licensing and other standards, Medicare and Medicaid programs, and COVID-19 related reporting requirements. Responsibilities: - Create and oversee the process for collecting, organizing, documenting, and storing all health care regulatory compliance data, including complete licensure information, across business segments such as skilled nursing and seniors housing facilities. - Partner with Legal and Business Insights teams to ensure accurate tracking of regulatory data and business insights data. - Work with partners, operators, and third parties to ensure data is consistently gathered and in compliance with Federal, State, Local, and other regulatory requirements. - Utilize and examine Federal, State, and other databases to identify data useful to the business. - Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk and advise on appropriate actions to mitigate these risks. - Work closely with Privacy and Security Officers to coordinate the creation, maintenance, and revision of policies and procedures for new and existing compliance programs. - Foster effective communication of current trends and regulatory changes among stakeholders, including internal team members, industry associations, and regulators. - Advise internal teams on regulatory and compliance aspects of acquisitions, dispositions, and operator transitions, including assisting with change of ownership applications and other Federal, State, or regulatory disclosures. - Perform special projects as assigned.
Requirements: - Law degree (J.D.) is required. - CHC (Certified in Healthcare Compliance) certification preferred. - 5 years of health care regulatory compliance experience within the assisted living, skilled nursing, and senior congregate care settings. - Strong familiarity with Federal and State health care laws, licensing and other standards, Medicare and Medicaid programs, and COVID-19 related reporting requirements. - Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. - Ability to identify and extract data from multiple sources, summarize and analyze for trends. - Strong understanding of healthcare documentation and electronic software programs. - Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills. - Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
